Plan to join us on the Wednesdays of Lent with a soup supper at 6:00pm and the study to begin at 7:00pm.

GOD SQUAD (Elementary Youth Group) EVENT: APRIL 14, 2007 View Photos
Activities inspired by Holy Humor Sunday. We told jokes, sang songs that we had to guess who the songs were about from the bible, had bible puppet shows, played ping-pong, pool and air-hockey and of course like good Moravians we had food.

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY: MARCH 25, 2007 View Photos
We had a concert to honor our 255th anniversary. The McManus Band (celtic fusion band) performed for an hour and people wanted more. So the band will return in the Christmas season, for a Christmas Concert. Our anniversary fell during Lent but for our Anniversary Sunday we put the sack cloth away and celebrated with balloons and a party during the service.

YOUTH LOCK IN AND SERVICE: FEBRUARY 17 & 18, 2007 View Photos
Youth On A Mission has been busy the past month. The youth participated in a lock in at the church on February 17th. There were 11 youths who came to enjoy a night of practicing for the following day's youth-led service, exciting games of man-hunt (hide-and-go seek in teams), food, and a discussion on how the media influences people’s lives. Speaking from a leader’s perspective the youth were amazing. Every one of them engaged in the discussion, participated in the games and each made sure that everyone was included and no one was left out. Though I think it was 2 am that they were finally asleep, the night was a blast for all involved. The next day the youth led the service because they had kidnapped the pastor — the ransom was paid, $362.50. From where I sat (in the nursery) I could hear each one of them lead their particular parts with confidence and enthusiasm. I am very, very proud of each of the youth who were involved. They did a fabulous job and I encourage every member to let the youth know how well they did. I hope to have more youth services and youth lock ins in the future. However, Kevin and I need to recover from this one first. March’s activity is TBA.

FEBRUARY FIESTA: FEBRUARY 10, 2007 View Photos
The Great Jalapeno. Have you seen it? If not talk to Larry Sprenkle, because obviously you missed one of the most fun-filled and delicious events to appear on the First Church calendar in some time. The event -- The February Fiesta on Saturday, February 10. The evening began with a magnificent pot luck buffet featuring many Mexican delicacies along with an impressive array of First Church favorites. The entertainment began with a not soon to be forgotten appearance by the one and only Chiquita Banana girl, aka Miriam Boll. The Lenin Sisters (Terry Downs, Lance Sprenkle, Larry Sprenkle, John Knokey) came out of retirement for a most unforgettable rendition of...What's the name of that song? It was a song wasn't it?  And then, to cap off the evening, all 58 of those in attendance laughed their sombereros off to Cliff Rowell's hilarious "Match Game." The panel of guests (Helen Figdore, Pastor Sayward, Elaine Rowell, David Bailey, Terry Downs and Rich Wurzbach) were challenged with some of the wildest, side splitting wit this side of the Macungie (well except for Pastor Sayward who answer to every question was STUFF...I think it might be a good idea for Kevin, her soon-to-be-husband, to be on the panel next year!) Larry Sprenkle came away with having the only response that was matched by the entire panel of illustrious guests. His prize — a gift certificate to a local Mexican restaurant, and the Great Jalapeno. A good time... no, a great time, was had by all.

CHURCH COUNCIL: JANUARY 28, 2007 View Photos
On January 28th, the church gathered for baked potato soup in the fellowship hall for one reason: church council. The business of the meeting went well, budgets were approved and officers were elected. Something new for the council meeting was a time for group work. This group work was to analyze Christmas Eve — what were the best things about our Christmas Eve service and what needs to be looked at for the coming years? There were things listed and suggestions were developed as well. Everyone seemed to enjoy this new part of the meeting, which may lead to it becoming a permanent part of the church council meeting. The meeting ended with those in attendance joining hand in hand to sing and to pray.

MOVIE NIGHT: JANUARY 21, 2007 View Photos
On January 21st, members of the congregation gathered for a mid-winter movie night. We enjoyed a great covered dish meal. When is a covered dish not great!? After our bellies were full and the dishes were done, we pushed play on Walt Disney’s "Flubber" (the one with Robin Williams). Young and old laughed and were warmed on that cold January night.
